We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

Low Tide:
12.14
(1.3m)
High Tide:
18.07
(6.7m)

It's a kind of overcast this morning and yet still bright with little drops of rain in the air but without any rain.  Yep, it's one of them mornings!
The surf is as it has been, real small but shimmering in the stillness, peeling and peaking, shadowing itself from relatively far out.  The best that we can hope for again is a shin to knee high session on the incoming tide.
But that has been fun over the last week or two for those with the longboards and the desire to play on them in these small surf conditions.  In fact there's a bit of a regular crew building up scratching onto those  board thickness sized waves, finding a wave strong enough to carry you being cause for excessive celebration!
Anyway, we'll get a ripple to ride this afternoon and it might even be sunny by then!

And haow good was yesterday's coverage of the Olympic Torch taking to the road at the start of a pretty long journey!  Well done to the Beeb's Louise Minchin for bringing alive the atmosphere from Land's End and how cool was Ben Ainslie, taking his time to show off that flame.  And I bet that St. Ives surfer, Tassy Swallow is only just beginning to take on the reality of her experience!  Yep, it looked as though a good day was had by all.
Any distraction from these very weak surf conditions eh!

When conditions are set as they have been for some time now, it is difficult to imagine any change.  But we will be back surfing here eventually, when the next swell arrives with south westerly winds messing the main breaks.  I wonder how much it will have changed with the sand being allowed to settle in unusual places in these calm conditions.  We'll probably know soon enough, it just feels like an eternity since the last proper swell!
In the meantime, yes, it is flat.

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size). 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country).

Surf Forecast for Monday 21st May 2012

Steady!  You're still going to need some patience yet!

Calm, settled conditions are going to continue into the very start of the week.  But, maybe by as soon as the afternoon we could just see some stronger lines forming and a little more white water.
Maybe.
And then by the evening...  Still longboardy type waves but perhaps, just perhaps, with a bit more grunt.

Surf Conditions for the Week Ahead

Okay, fed up with this slack period of surf (and weather)?

Well, it could just be on the change this week.
The light and variable winds are looking settled while some swell lines from that not too impressive low pressure system should be assisted ashore by those light breezes.  We could be seeing the first half decent surf in a good few weeks and some bright and pleasant weather too!
Yep, by midweek there should be some happy smiles around!
Have a good week, whatever you're doing!
