We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

High Tide:
07.48
(7.2m)
Low Tide:
14.12
(1.2m)
5' - 6'
The wind is still gusting through this morning, haphazardly rocking those twinkling lights from the one or two fishing boats that have put out there overnight.
It feels chillier too but the thermometer isn't agreeing with me.
The north westerly wind has dropped from yesterday but there are still sudden gusts, powerful and chill, tugging at the four to five to six feet waves and pushing them over too early.  Yep, it's a mess!  A choppy, sloppy, mixed up mess.  And that's at just about full high tide too!

And so it's on with all that painting and decorating in the shop!  It is only a tiny place but seems to be taking a while to keep it as it should be.  Matt's mate is building new board racks to hold this year's selection of surfboards and hopefully display them a little better for you.
It is always exciting at this time of year, planning for the arrival of all those lovely things; new boards, newly designed wetsuits, even leashes and deck grips and all those little detail things that really can make a difference to that magical surf session.  And what a spread there is this year again!  The Retro board thing seems to be still going on but with that modern twist, allowing those styling looking boards to sit comfortably alongside the most dynamic rippers that are currently available.  It's all a long way from the lumpy planks of not that long ago!

And, to clear that always 'never enough' space, we're still clearing out a whole heap of stuff.  If you're looking to get something new then now could be the right time!  Check our 'Shop' section on the site for a lot of offers or throw us an email to des@constantinesurf.com or why not drop in on us!  We still have full ranges of O'NeillXcel and Quikky winter wetsuits too, with most sizes in most styles still available, many with a Dezzy Discount too (one day we might even get them all on the site at the same time!)!

There are waves here, which may just be stating the obvious but it's sort of okay ish.
The three to probably four feet when you're out there of windy, cross/onshore surf is still managing to stand tall off the Rock and there's the odd righthander bowling through.  But that is pretty much at high tide.  That provides shelter but also gives a bit too much depth under those waves.  It will be crunchier as the tide drops.  So if the wind backs off and that is forecast, or if it changes direction, which is not forecast, then it could improve.
With a bit of searching about or if you take the drive South then you would probably find better conditions but it could just be worth a wet anyway.

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size). 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country).

Surf Forecast for Saturday 28th January 2012

A clearer day is promised, still with some wind but much lighter than we've seen.

We may just see some almost offshore wind first thing too, well north north easterly anyway.  And with the drop in swell that is likely to happen, then it could be the main breaks that are the focus.
North Easterly wind, a dropping morning tide and a three foot swell immediately point to Boobys.
That would be nice although it's certainly not certain!  But get on it early, I can't see the wind staying away from onshore for too long!

Surf Conditions for the Weekend

As that wind weakens, which I'm sure that most of us are wishing for, so too will any swell.
Saturday looks like a calm and pleasant day with not much more than a breeze expected for most of the day and still plenty of probably still a bit mixed up and thick swell about.
With just a little bit of looking about, we should be able to find some good breaking surf spots.
And Sunday is looking similar but maybe a bit duller and breezier.
I think that HTC could be fun, if a little sloppy and mixed up on both days.  That or real small (tiny) Harlyn?
Anyway, there should be waves and it should be another mild and bright (at least to start with) weekend ahead of us.
Have a good one, whatever you're doing!
